One876entertainment.com understands that the King of Dancehall Music, Beenie Man, has decided to enter the Power Soca Monarch contest in Trinidad this year. However, his submission arrived too late to make the final cut and he will be unable to compete. Beenie Man is no stranger to soca music, having scored an international hit, Jump and Wine, several years ago, and he has done several collaborations with Trinidadian artistes such as Machel Montano.  Following the 2012 London Olympics, Beenie Man and defending Soca Monarch Machel Montano paid tribute in a song titled “Champions”, to athletes of Jamaica, Grenada, the Dominican Republic and Trinidad and Tobago who medalled at the games.

The late submission of his recordings cost  Beenie Man a chance to compete in this year’s Power Soca and Groovy Soca Monarch competitions. Beenie Man, whose name is Anthony Moses Davis, entered his name for one of the biggest shows in the calendar of TT Carnival. However, Caribbean Prestige Foundation officials announced on Tuesday of this week that Beenie Man’s recordings for preliminary judging which took place last Sunday were received late and therefore he won’t be in the competition. The first prize award totals some 2 million TT dollars.
Maybe next year the Dancehall King can become the Soca Monarch as well.
