A story in the New York Times yesterday claims that Dudus wrote a letter to Judge Robert F. Patterson begging for leniency. He wrote a letter to the Federal District Judge asking him to use his "discretion" to sentence him "below the guideline range". He gave them 13 reasons, among them that he had lost his mother and that his eight year old son was traumatised by his arrest.

The letter also spoke about the charitable donations that he gave to the poor and elderly, as well as the annual back to school treat. The letter was mailed from the Metropolital Correctional Centre where he is being held.
