FLOYD ‘I-Brill’ Brooks believes he is good enough to be dancehall’s next Mavado. He respects the singjay’s style and even pointed to the fact that they share the same surname.

“I like Vybz Kartel’s swag in the dancehall. When you want some energy he is the artiste you put in. He is the first artiste bring in triple line and full of style, but Mavado I always like his songs.

“We have something in common, even the same surname, and I like the positive songs he sings. I see him as a role model,” said the 24-year-old Tsunami Records artiste.

Describing himself as a singjay who does culture music and girls’ songs, I-Brill is a Manchester native and attended school at Winston Jones High in Pratville.

“I started out from 2005, taking the music seriously, but I was inclined from a tender age. I am working with Tsunami records now but I was with Music House for whom I have a song out, ‘Sweet Jamaica’.

However, it’s his Tsunami song, ‘In My arms’, which has been creating waves.

“I was at Meadowbrook High School recently, performing alongside G-Whiz, Beenie Man, Specialist, Sheldon Senior and Lethal, among other artistes,” he said.

“I got good forward from the crowd, pull-ups and all that. The students loved how I performed there. I kept them rocking,” he pointed out.

However, I-Brill said it was at Club Riddim in New Kingston that he got the biggest forwards that ame night.

“At Riddim, I burnt it up with the song I am putting out with Tsunami, ‘In My arms’, it has a deejay then singing part with me doing both. It’s a girls’ swag song. It tun up,” he said.”

I-Brill wants to be an artiste who “people accept and remember among the greats like Shaggy”.

“Right now I am just doing my work, putting out more and trying to go as hard as possible,” I-Brill added, pointing out that his upcoming release, ‘Kick’, will “turn up the heat”.
