Int'l Feast of Poetree kicks off Aug. 10 @one876 @YASUSAFARI Featured

The International Feast of Poetree shall generously serve great fun and excitement at the 4th annual Jamaica Poetry Festival - The International Edition, on Sunday August 10, at the fitting and aptly named, Louise Bennett Garden Theatre, 36 Hope Road, Kingston, Jamaica.

Jamaica Poetry Festival 2014 comprises Creative Writing Workshop between 10am and 2pm and the much anticipated International Poetry Showcase at 7pm, featuring poets from Iran, USA, UK, Anguilla and Jamaica. This is being dubbed the International Feast of Poetry, in the Year of Poetree. The Poetry showcase will pay tribute to this year's honourees: Mutabaruka, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Jean Binta Breeze, Oku Onuora, Benjamin Zephaniah, Sonia Sanchez, Amiri Baraka and Maya Angelou.

The Third World One Woman Fest Jean Binta Breeze, 'The One Woman Festival', who published her much celebrated Third World Woman anthology in 2011 and recently received the Member of the Order of the British empire (MBE) from the queen of England will make her triumphant return to the Jamaican stage.

Jean Breeze's return has been generating great buzz and excitement here in Jamaica as well as across the international poetry community in Europe, UK, USA, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia.

Interestingly, fellow honouree, Benjamin Zephaniah refused a similar MBE based on what he described as the atrocities committed by the British empire.

Other featured poets are Dr Neal Hall (USA) who intellectual passion and cutting edge poetry bas branded him the Malcolm X of Poetry. Then there is the Iranian poet Shima Ahmadi who is very excited in spite of the security concerns expressed by Iran in the face of the wars it is coping with in Gaza and Iraq. The wider Caribbean is being represented by Alexis Ryan, the Fashion Designer Poet, in what is seen as an International Fanfare and Feast of Poetry.

Jamaica is being represented by founder organizer, Yasus Afari, the fire brand Steppa, the celebrated Maia Chung, the sensuous Dr Karen Carpenter, Kellie Magnus the literary giant, Annmarie Wilmot of Church Teacher's College, the veteran Jean Goulbourne and special guest artiste, Admiral Tibet the reggae general, while MC will be gracious Viv Morris-Brown.
