Montego Bay-based dancehall artiste Rickey Teetz is gaining notoriety in the western end of the island for his hard-hitting dancehall rhymes as well as his ability to deliver soul-stirring reggae gems about hustling and perseverance.
But it is in the dancehall arena that Rickey Teetz has been making waves recently. He has raised the temperature in the dancehall out west with a pair of new heat-seeking singles that have won him new fans out in the west. He shot videos for the songs, one for the bouncy single, ‘Just Clap’, recorded for Inspired Music on the Hot Up Riddim and the other for the hardcore single, Tip Yuh, on an amped-up dancehall riddim. “Both songs have been getting good rotation, the disc jockeys have really responded well to the songs and have been giving me good support, so I made sure that I took the time to feed the fans with visuals to these songs,” he said. Rickey Teetz first gained recognition for a conscious slate of songs that focused on the tenets of hard work, and perseverance in the face of poverty. But recently, Rickey Teetz has showed great versatility in doing a complete about-face to dancehall-inspired fare with booty-bouncing girls and songs that focus on dancehall excess and bling. “As an artiste in the local market, one has to be versatile, this is just another side of Rickey Teetz. The ‘Just Clap’ is more a party song of enjoyment for everyone while ‘Tip Yuh’ is dedicated to the ladies who want to get their tips for dancing and shaking their assets. Music is very diverse so this is just my way of showing my fun party side,” he said. The videos for both songs will be released next week. “When these songs drop in the dancehall anywhere in the west, the dance get maddddd! The selectors haffi pull up the song several times, in fact, there are at least two viral videos on youtube with Tip Yuh right now getting crazy views,” he said. Last Friday, Rickey Teetz appeared as one of the special guest artistes at Centre Fridays in Cornwall Courts Mobay. He earned forwards from the partisan crowd from start to finish, especially for the hustler anthem, ‘1000 Block’. The hometown hero has a strong loyal fanbase that gives him maximum support whenever he performs in the west. “Yea man, the fans dem show mi crazy love, it is a great look right now,” he said. . Rickey Teetz is slated to perform at Seduction 2, Pier One on April 13th and in Maroon Town on April 20th later this month.
